How to properly wash a man's face: a step-by-step guide
It might seem simple, but washing your face correctly is the foundation of any effective skincare routine. Many men skip this step entirely, showering and then relying on soap or water alone. The result? Dull, irritated, or excessively oily skin.
Why is it important to wash your face correctly?
Throughout the day (and night), your skin accumulates dirt, sebum, bacteria, atmospheric pollution, and dead skin cells. All of this creates an environment that promotes acne, inflammation, and accelerates skin aging.
The correct frequency: morning and evening
You should wash your face twice a day: morning and evening. Once in the morning removes sebum accumulated overnight. Once in the evening removes all impurities from the day.
Warning: Washing your face more than twice a day can damage the skin barrier, making the skin drier and more irritated.
Step 1: Choose the right cleanser, not soap
This is the first and most common mistake men make: using regular body soap on their face. Soap is too alkaline for the delicate skin of the face.
Step 2: Use lukewarm, not hot, water
Ideal temperature: Lukewarm, not hot, water. If you're unsure, the rule is: if the water is hot enough to make you feel comfortable long-term, it's probably a bit too hot for your face.
Step 3: The cleansing technique
With your fingers (not your palm), massage the cleanser onto your face with gentle circular motions for 30-60 seconds. Focus on problematic areas: forehead, nose, chin.
Step 4: Rinse very well
Rinse at least 2-3 times with lukewarm water until you feel the cleanser is completely removed.
